Sedum Varieties

Sedum Kamtschaticum    kam-SHAT-tih-kum
Common Name:  Kamschatka, Orange Stonecrop
Full Sun to Part Shade
Zone:  3-9
Height:  4-6"
Flowers:  Orange-Yellow...June-July
*One of my favorites for roof tops! It can be divided by either divisions or cuttings.  Plant the cuttings deep; they'll droop and wilt at first, but keep them moist and they'll perk up and look great in about a week.

Sedum Kamtschaticum 'Variegatum'
Common name:  Variegated Stonecrop
Full Sun to Part Shade
Zone:  4-9
Height:  3-6"
Flowers:  Yellow...June-July
*I rarely use this sedum in roof-tops or wreaths. It's slow to return in the spring (if it does return) and it's hard to divide either by cuttings or divisions.

Sedum sarmentosum
Common name:  Graveyard Moss
Full Sun to Partial Shade
Zone:  3-8
Height: 2-4 inches--trails up to 8 inches
Flowers:  Bright yellow...May-June
*I thought this plant was annoyingly invasive until I started making the living roofs, now it's my one of my favorites! Fast growing-spreads rapidly-roots easily.  After it blooms in spring the stems with the flowers somewhat die back, but don't think it's dead!  It will revive and look great within a few weeks.

Sedum hispanium
Common Name:  Blue Carpet Sedum, Spanish Stonecrop
Full Sun to Light Shade
Zone:  4-9
Height:  2-4 inches
Flowers:  White to pine...Early Summer
*Wonderful plant for either roof-tops or wreaths. It's color is a wonderful contrast to the other green sedums.  Transplants easily by divisions, spreads rapidly.

Sedum reflexum
Common name:  Blue Spruce
Full Sun
Zone:  3-9
Height:  6-8 inches
Flowers:  Bright yellow star-shaped...June-July
*A little slow to come back in the spring, but a great plant with it's contrasting blue color.  Works well in roof-tops, containers (it looks a little strange in wreaths or walls with it's 8 inch spikes...)

Sedum spurium
Common Name:  Fuldaglut
Full Sun
Zone:  3-9
Height:  3 inches
Flowers:  Tiny rose-red star-shaped...August
*Slower to return in the spring, but a wonderful and reliable plant.

Rosularia rechingeri

Common Name:  Rosularia
Sun to Partial Shade
Zone:  3-8
Height:  2-4 inches
*I love this sedum! Works well in either roof-tops or wreaths.  Divide by divisions--transplant carefully--very delicate!

Sedum spurium
Common Name:  Dragon's Blood
Sun to Partial Shade
Zone:  3 -9
Height:  3-6 inches
Flowers:  Bright pink, star-shaped...July-August
*I love the color contrast, but it's slow to return in the spring (if it does) and it doesn't transplant that easily.

Sedum rupestre
Common Name:  Angelina
Full Sun to Partial Shade
Zone:  3-11
Height:  3-5 inches
Flowers:  Tiny yellow..July-August
*Slower to return in the spring, but once established it's a great yellow contrast with the other green sedums.  Transplants best if there are some roots on the divisions.

Sedum requieni
Common Name:  Miniature Stonecrop
Full Sun
Zone:  3-10
Height:  1-2 inches
Flowers:  Tiny yellow-white..July
*Wonderful plant for pathways, works well in roof-tops and wreaths, but for some unknown reason it tends to die unexpectedly...

Sedum spurium
Common Name:  John Creech
Full Sun to Partial Shade
Zone:  3-8
Height:  3 inches
Flowers:  Pink...August
*Tight, mat-forming. Transplant by cuttings.

Album var.
Common Name: Coral Carpet
Full Sun-Part Shade
Zone:  3-8
Height:  2-3 inches
Flowers:  Light pink/white...early summer.
*I love the color changes of this plant; sometimes I think it has a blue tint, sometimes green with a hint of red!  Transplant by divisions carefully--delicate..

Sedum kamtschaticum var. floriferum
Common Name:  Weihenstephaner Gold
Full Sun-Part Shade
Zone:  3-9
Height:  3-6 inches
Flowers: Yellow/orange...early summer.
Low growing, ground-cover sedum...
"Great plant!"
